Plum Survey Results Preview

On August 30, 2007, we asked our Plum e.news subscribers to complete a survey for us.  We were overwhelmed by the response.  So far over 3300 responses have been received from a wide range of ages, occupations, and cities of residence! 

To those who completed our survey, thank you!  We really do find the input useful to us.  The draw for the Gift Certificate has taken place and we are in the process of contacting the winner now -- this page will be updated once we have made contact.

Here are a few interesting findings that we would like to share:

Do you agree or disagree that women in your city are more likely to buy clothes that are comfortable rather than fashionable?   

Strongly Agree or Agree by City:

Vancouver	79%
Victoria	83%
Calgary	70%
Kelowna	74%

Clearly our respondents believe that on the west coast, comfortable is more important than fashionable.  Although comfort is important for clothing, how “fashionable” you are may be the sacrifice, especially in Vancouver and BC's capital, Victoria. It could hit you in the pocketbook as well.  See below.

Do you agree or disagree that people who dress in the current fashion are more likely to get promoted?

A surprising number of the total number of Plum customers agreed.

• Of all responses to the question, 54% either strongly agreed or somewhat agreed.
• Of respondents who “influence hires and promotions” the percentage is even greater. An overwhelming 61% agree “that people who dress in the current fashion are more likely to get promoted.”

Dress codes at work by city

• 17% of respondents have a formal dress code at work.  Victoria is the city most likely to have a formal dress code.
• 56% of respondents have an informal dress code at work.
• 11% of respondents indicated that it doesn’t matter what they wear to work.

What would you consider inappropriate work clothes?

We received a wide range of answers to this question. 

Some of the most common themes were:

• Jeans or Denim top the list as being inappropriate work attire – regardless of what you pay for them.
• T-shirts, tanks or sweats aren't recommend either.
• Yoga wear is best for doing yoga.
