Dress for Success Customer Campaign - Spring 2009

Tuesday Feb. 10 2009

Dear Plum Customer,

As a customer of Plum you know that we do not give, sell or otherwise provide your name and contact information to any organization. You are also likely to know that Plum supports many organizations that support women. However there are two organizations which we consistently support because of the wonderful work they do in building confidence in women; Big Sisters and Dress for Success.

Our appeal today is for Dress for Success. I will get right to the point. DFS needs good quality clothing to help economically challenged women dress for job interviews. Needless to say the need is growing because of economic forecasts. We know you can help these women get the needed confidence they must have to “pull it off” and become financially independent.

Plum is accepting interview clothing (specific information is below) on, appropriately enough, Valentines Day weekend! It is your time to show the love.

   WHAT WE NEED:
  1. Interview appropriate clothing. Suits and office type of jackets; good quality separates including cardigans, skirts, pants and dresses. Good blouses and shells for under jackets are challenging for us to find.  Spring clothing is what we need most right now. Even one or two items are appreciated.
  2. Purses, handbags and accessories in excellent condition are also needed.
  3. Clothing that is NO older than three years. The goal is to give these women a bit of a leg up for their interviews. They often lack confidence after being out of the work force for a variety of reasons and need to feel up-to-date and able to “pull it off.” Call it “early retirement” for that piece in your closet – make some room for something new at Plum!
  4. Dry cleaned clothing would be sensational!  DFS will mail you a tax receipt for dry-cleaning receipts when presented with the donated clothing.
  5. Small sizes and large sizes are extremely helpful.  If you are a small or large size then you know how difficult it is to find something.  The same holds true for DFS – it is a challenge for everyone and much appreciated when it is donated.
  6. Is it tough to figure out if what you have is appropriate?  Well take the “hurt test.” If it hurts a little to part with it, then it likely means that someone will fall in love with it.
