Thank you for your entries! The Qolo Design Competition winners have been chosen, see our winners list on qolo.ca.

In 2010 we will be having tens of thousands of visitors in our Province and City - it's only a year away!  It is an opportunity for all of us to show off where we live.

Plum is launching an idea that should be good for everyone, especially our local artists.  In celebration of our Province and our City we are creating a new T-shirt & accessory line called Qolo Vancouver.  It is both timely and fashionable.

Here is the vision.

  1. Qolo & Plum will launch six graphic designs on fashionable women's t-shirts, knit wear or accessories and sell them in the Plum stores and on the Qolo website.
  2. The designs will be chosen by representatives of Plum from submissions made to Plum before April 30th 2009.
  3. The designs will be chosen for how well they are suited to a fashionable t-shirt and how well they represent life in British Columbia (detailed criteria is listed below).
  4. The artists for the six designs will be paid $300 each for use of their designs on the T-shirts and in promotional material used to promote the sale of the clothing and accessories.
  5. Plum retains the right to integrate or change the design to suit a fashion item.
  6. Artistic credit will be given to the artists in all promotional materials.
  7. $3.00 from the sale of each item will be donated to charities that work to reduce homelessness in Vancouver.

Here is what you must do.

  1. Notify Plum as soon as possible that you will be submitting one or more designs by April 30 2009 – designs@plum.ca or designs@qolo.ca
  2. You must be a resident of British Columbia, Canada.
  3. The designs must be original design created by the artist.
  4. If your design is chosen you must be prepared to sign a document outlining what your design is to be used for. (The document will have all the usual legal stuff in it but basically you will find the meaning in clear language below).
  5. Please submit a copy of your artwork by email (designs@qolo.ca) or by snail-mail to Qolo Competition, 1425 Charles Street, Vancouver, BC V5L 2S7.  Original artwork will be required for the winners of the competition.
  6. Tell all of your artistic friends about the contest.

The designs and artwork.

  1. The concept of the t-shirt designs is to remind visitors what it is like to live in BC.
  2. Winter themes are preferred.
  3. Urban, rural or countryside designs are acceptable.
  4. Hand illustrations, photography, digital art and mixed media accepted.
  5. All artwork must be a minimum of 12 x 14" (minimum 8x10). (We can shrink it but we need good enough quality and detail to start with in order to scan it.)
  6. Raster artwork must be a minimum of 300 dpi. Digital art must be submitted as TIFF or EPS.
  7. Try to capture the feel of our lifestyle as well as what you find visually compelling.
  8. Think “would I love to wear this t-shirt?” because it is fashionable.
  9. We are not interested in the classic ‘tourist’ designs or Olympic themes.  Something unique and unusual that helps us imagine British Columbia would be preferred.

How your design will be used.

  1. Plum and Qolo will use your designs for T-shirts, knitwear, accessories sold in the Plum stores and on the Plum website and the Qolo website.
  2. Your designs will be used to promote the sale of the clothing and accessories, including, websites, emails, posters, press-releases, in-store promotional materials, video on websites like Youtube, customer hand-outs and mailers.
  3. Plum has “exclusive” use of the designs for the above stated purposes.  In other words the designs cannot be used for any other purpose by any one else prior to the end of August 2010.
  4. Plum will have full control on how the design is to be used for the T-shirt design and in all promotional materials as stated above.  This includes colours, shape, size, background or any other feature of the design that Plum may decide to remove or add.  The intent is to make a t-shirt that will sell!
  5. The original art-work will be returned to the artist but although care will be taken, Plum cannot take any responsibility for the condition of the piece.
  6. The T-shirts will be Canadian made.
